New York is one of my absolute favorite places to visit and I still haven’t given up on living there someday! This visit was so special because it was the first time Aaron and I had been back together since he proposed!! (You can ready about that here) This trip, we had another mission, to celebrate Brendan and Aaron’s birthdays! So we went big!
Our trip started in Danbury, Connecticut with the Melanophy’s! We had so much fun! We went to the Mets game and I got the home tour (every place Aaron spent most of his time while he lived with the Mel’s during Summer baseball! It was so fun to see more of his life prior to life with me! We spent a lot of time at the mall (which I loved) and lots of time with Mrs. Mel (She’s such a wonderful host!)
On Thursday, we picked up Kalyn from the train (she came in from DC) and we all headed toward Grand Central on Friday! Once we got there we were ready to… eat BBQ! That’s right! Us Texans flew made the trek all the way to Manhattan to enjoy some non-Texas BBQ from Blue Smoke. It became a big joke! But, it was amazing food! We celebrated Brendan’s birthday and walked through the new Oculus! It was amazing! It is a mall that is disguised as a train station and if you look up at the ceiling you see the shape of the Freedom Tower.
We spent a lot of time with our friends just hanging out, exploring the Bronx, tasting the best pizza I have ever had, and partaking in their Fordham Homecoming festivities. That was my first time in the Bronx borough and I loved it, well I loved the pizza! Plus, I’m all about a new experience! After all of the Fordham fun, we wandered into a fun rooftop bar where we met new people, continually tried to one-up the table next to us with our celebratory cheers and enjoyed the beautiful Fall weather!
Then, we found ourselves waking up to our last day in Manhattan, and we knew we had to be tourists if just for one day. So Aaron and I set out early in the morning to enjoy his birthday brunch at the Egg Shop! Amazing food, ridiculous wait, totally worth it! We walked through an Italian street fair, through art galleries, and found ourselves at Chelsea Market. I have never been to Chelsea Market before and it was definitely one of my favorite experiences. The next time we visit we are sure to go back to eat lunch there and shop a little more! They have some of the most unique vendors! Once we left the market, we rented city bikes and rode them up along the Hudson River so we could get to Central Park a little quicker. I would just like to say that I wish I lived somewhere where you could walk everywhere! I hit record breaking steps on my fitbit.
After all of our adventures as tourists… we got dressed up for our fancy dinner at Quality Meats! Oh my goodness the food was divine! To give you a sampler, the appetizer was a thick cut bacon with homemade peanut butter and apples. It was to die for! We also enjoyed some gruyere and gnocchi and some aged meat that Aaron picked out. We finished it off with a s’mores ice cream! It was by far the best meal we had in the city!
